SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL OF NOVATO
Supports the work of Daraja Academy
Daraja Academy, is a girls school started by Jason and Jenni Doherty of Marin County. Their vision and commitment led to the establishment of a high school for young girls from different parts of Kenya, providing them with quality education, transition to university and support as they lift themselves and their families from poverty.
Leila Ali Ibrahim, a graduate of Daraja, spoke with the Soroptimist members about her love of Kenya and devotion to the school as cultural ambassador.
Soroptimist International of Novato has generously committed to sponsoring a girl's education at Daraja Academy.

My name is Leila Ali, a graduate of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Nairobi, with a degree in Microbiology and a leadership certificate from the African Leadership Group (ALA, ALU, ALX).
Currently I am working as a Fundraising Manager at Daraja Academy, a school that made me the person I am today. I am a huge believer in girls' education, and I believe the only way to justify your privilege is to solve a big problem. I want to solve the problems Africa is facing from poor health, bad governance, poor infrastructure, and lacking education. I want to connect to the big picture by identifying opportunities, creating sustainable solutions, and continuously iterating. I want to be part of the Africa rising narrative.
